Aaron Godlewski, age 31, of Altamont, was arrested Tuesday, June 13, on suspicion of fraud and other charges, according to New York State Police.

Troopers were initially contacted in early May 2023 by a contractor who claimed he was issued a bad check by Godlewski, who was acting as a home builder and general contractor for Godlewski Builders LLC.

Investigators determined that Godlewski had been hired by multiple people in New Scotland, Altamont, and Bethlehem between 2021 and 2023. He in turn hired numerous subcontractors to complete parts of the projects.

Despite paying for some of the work, he failed to fully reimburse the subcontractors, according to troopers.

In one instance, Godlewski reportedly issued a payment from a bank account that was known to have insufficient funds.

Troopers did not specify a dollar amount, but said Godlewski’s scheme resulted in the theft of services totaling over $1,000.

He is charged with the following crimes:

  • Fourth-degree grand larceny
  • Three counts of first-degree scheme to defraud
  • Second-degree issuing a bad check, scheme to defraud
  • Two counts of theft of services
  • Petit larceny

Godlewski surrendered to the State Police facility in New Scotland on Tuesday, where he was arrested and processed.

He was issued appearance tickets to multiple courts on later dates.
